Pill forgotten?

Pill forgotten?

Never think it is not a problem if you forgot to take a pill!

  • If you forget one pill, you may get pregnant.
  • Not only on the day itself, but also weeks later, even if you don’t forget any other pill afterwards.
  • You may even become pregnant if you had sex in the days before you have forgotten to take the pill.
  • Below you can read what you can do to avoid a pregnancy.

21-day pills

What if you are less than 12 hours late with your pill:

  • Immediately take the forgotten pill.
  • Take the rest of the strip at the normal time every day.
  • No additional measures are required.

What if you are more than 12 hours late with your pill:

 1 pill forgotten:

  • Immediately take the forgotten pill. Even if this means taking two tablets at the same time.
  • Take the rest of the strip at the normal time every day.
  • No additional measures are required.

2 or 3 forgotten pills (consecutively or separately):

Depending on where you are in the strip, you have to take the following precautions:

Days 1-7 (week 1):

  • Immediately take the last forgotten pill and the pill of the day on which you noticed it at the normal time.
  • Take the rest of the strip at the normal time.
  • Use a condom during the next 7 days when you have sex.
  • If you had sex up to five days before the first forgotten pill, you have to take the emergency pill. (*emergency pill)

Days 8-14 (week 2):

  • Immediately take the last forgotten pill and the pill of the day on which you noticed it at the normal time.
  • Continue with the strip at the normal time.
  • No additional measures are required.

Days 15-21 (week 3). In this case you can choose:

1st possibility:

  • You immediately stop with the strip during 7 days (as from the first forgotten pill).
  • After the gap week you start with a new strip.

 2nd possibility:

  • Immediately take the last forgotten pill and the pill of the day on which you noticed it at the normal time.
  • Continue with the strip at the normal time
  • Skip the gap week.
  • After this, immediately start with a new strip.

In both cases no additional measures are required.

4 or more forgotten pills (consecutively or separately)

  • Continue to take your strip.  Go and see your doctor and in the meantime use a condom.
  • If you had sex up to five days before the first forgotten pill, you must take the emergency pill.
