Wrinkle Suppression

Eternal youth the natural way

  • Eternal youth is everyone's greatest wish, but unfortunately no one can escape the aging process.
  • To slow the aging of the skin, it is important to live healthy.
  • Taking good care of your skin, not smoking, moderate alcohol use, eating healthy and not too much sunbathing are definitely good ways to prevent premature development of wrinkles.

Aesthetic surgery

If you do not want surgery, you can make do with Botox or wrinkle filler. These are both temporary solutions and require follow-up applications.

A facelift and a lipofiller may be permanent solutions, but they are more drastic.

Temporary wrinkle suppression solutions

  • Botox is a diluted, purified form of botulinum type A toxin and is used in aesthetic surgery, amongst others for wrinkle suppression.
  • The wrinkles that are most commonly treated with Botox are the so-called mimicry wrinkles. These are caused by facial expressions. The most common are: frown wrinkles (between the eyebrows), crow's feet (around the eyes) and the horizontal forehead wrinkle.
  • How does Botox work? Small amounts of Botox are injected into the muscles that cause the wrinkles. It is an immobilising substance that reduces muscle function. The muscle can no longer contract, making the wrinkle less visible.
  • Unfortunately, the effect of a Botox treatment is not permanent. After three to four months the muscle has recovered, allowing the wrinkle to reappear. The treatment will then have to be repeated.
  • Remember that Botox treatments should always be supervised by a doctor because temporary side effects may occur! These include: allergic reactions, headaches, pain at the point of injection, paralysis of the wrong muscle group, crooked smile, drooping eyelids...

Did you know this?
Botox cannot eliminate all types of wrinkles, but only wrinkles caused by muscle activity. A quick test to find out if your wrinkle can be treated with Botox: stretch the skin and check whether the wrinkles disappear. If you cannot see any more lines, Botox could offer a solution. If you can still see lines, Botox will not help (source

Wrinkle filler

  • Wrinkle filler fills the wrinkle with a substance, making it less visible. (The choice of product used determines whether it is a temporary or a permanent solution. Remember that permanent filler has many dangerous side effects! There is a high risk of rejection. Many doctors in Belgium therefore advise against using this product!!).
  • There are also several temporary filler products on the market, but one of the safest is hyaluronic acid. It is a substance that is naturally present in the skin. Consequently, there are few side effects and this product gives good results. The hyaluronic acid is injected into the wrinkle using very fine needles, making it less visible. The result is temporary, follow-up applications are necessary.

 Permanent wrinkle suppression solutions

  • This is a permanent solution for wrinkle suppression. It is an operation to smoothen facial folds and wrinkles. There are different types of facelifts: a minor facelift, a major facelift, a neck lift and a brow lift.
  • All these different types of facelifts are major and irreversible changes to your body. Prepare yourself thoroughly for the treatment and make sure this surgery is what you want.

  • Lipofilling uses body-own fatty tissue so there is no risk of rejection.
  • For lipofilling, fatty tissue is taken from elsewhere in your body using liposuction. This may be from the hips, the buttocks or the lower abdomen. This fatty tissue is processed and can then be injected into the wrinkle. In this way the wrinkle becomes less visible. In principle, the result is permanent.
  • Lipofilling is also used to add volume to the lips or cheekbones.
