Female sex workers

Labiaplasty is an aesthetic procedure that is becoming more common.

  • Surgery may be a solution for women who dislike the shape and size of their inner labia.
  • In some cases they are a couple of centimetres longer than the outer ones, and so are visible when standing. Some women feel uncomfortable with this.
  • It can also cause pain and discomfort in daily life such as when wearing tight clothing, exercising or having intercourse.
  • The surgery only corrects the inner labia.
  • This is done by removing the protruding part of the inner labia so that they are smaller than the outer ones. The outer labia are not corrected during the operation.
  • The operation may be done under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia.
  • The labia may be painful and swollen after surgery. It takes a couple of weeks before they are fully healed.
  • Ask your doctor when you can resume your normal daily activities and when you can resume your sex work.
